The Importance of Dental Care For Your Pet
My Grandmother Helen always said
“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
Brushing your pet’s teeth may be one of the most important and easiest things you can do at home to safeguard your pet's health. Without it, bacteria, tartar, and plaque adhere to your pet's teeth. Bad breath is usually the first indication that there is a problem and quickly evolves into periodontal (gum) disease if not addressed. This periodontal disease left untreated then advances from the mouth into your pet's bloodstream. This can, and probably will, affect your pet's overall health.
The good news is that dental disease is often preventable with simple daily brushing. Also advanced oral disease is likely to disappear after the oral disease is treated by your veterinarian.
Do NOT use “human” toothpaste! Purchase toothpaste made specifically for pets. You may also purchase a toothbrush the conveniently fits onto your finger. Yes we do sell these products and they can be purchased at the pet stores as well.
Professional teeth-cleaning under anesthesia may be essential for your pet’s overall health and preventive healthcare. Often the cost is prohibitive but our prices are affordable. I asked my dentist how much it would be to have my teeth cleaned under anesthesia. I was told the anesthesia alone was $300.00. Wow! Our prices are much better than that.
